Skin Needling

I know, I know, everyone hears the word needle and cringes. Reader, you may be like I don’t even know why someone would get such a service, it sounds like a torture method! If you care to be enlightened on how this service is beneficial and not as painful as it sounds... welcome to our blog! They say beauty is pain, but this service is a breeze and really does bring on the beauty trick we are all looking for...anti-aging!!!

What is Skin Needling?

Skin Needling is considered a facial skin care treatment. It is designed to kick start skin rejuvenation and get those skin cells regenerated and turned over. In turn, this means creating new skin cells on the inside, and looking youthful and glowing on the outside! Our skin cells generally regenerate themselves every 27-28 days. With aging, the regeneration period does take longer and our skin will start to show that visibly on the skin. That is where skin needling comes into play. This service is designed to give our skin cells an extra push which in turn benefits our skin in many ways. Skin Needling aids with:

  •  Diminishing the appearance of fine lines & wrinkles

  • Re-texturizing and Resurfacing skin

  • Reducing and Minimizing the appearance of enlarged pores

  • Improving acne scarring

  • Aids in correcting hypo/hyper pigmentation areas on the skin

  • Anti-Aging

  • Promoting collagen & elastin production

  • Reducing common problem areas: crow’s feet, under eye dark circles, under eye puffiness/bags, forehead lines, smile lines, smoker’s lines.

How does this service work?

Skin Needling is performed by ultra fine, mini micro needles. These needles are powered by a digital machine which enables the needles to penetrate the skin’s surface to reach the deeper layers of skin. The needles penetrate the skin in horizontal and vertical motions that create hundreds of punctures in the skin at high speeds. This process creates micro tears in the skin which therefore would send the skin into trauma; forcing it to work rapidly to repair the broken skin. When this happens, the skin will start to produce new collagen and elastin in order to heal and repair the skin. On top of repairing from the inside out; towards the end of this procedure we do add serums to the micro-perforations with active ingredients like collagen and aloe. That way we are working from the outside in as well as soothing the skin. This automatically takes on the look of youthful, plump skin. BUT, don’t worry...before the procedure begins, a numbing cream will be placed all over the face 30 minutes before. This enables the client to go into the service more relaxed and prepared to take on this amazing service! You’re probably still saying in your head, yeah but does it hurt? The numbing cream really does help numb that skin so that the only things a client may feel would be pressure or a temperature increase. This is normal! When the skin senses trauma or pain, the body heats up and temperature increases in order to attempt to protect itself.

Who can get skin needling and how often?

Honestly, anyone is a candidate for skin needling because we can never have too much collagen and elastin! But fun fact…our collagen and elastin levels start to deplete at the age of 25! So why not start amping up our skin care needs now! This treatment can cater to anyone who has acne scarring, fine lines and wrinkles, pigmentation problems, etc. to name a few! It is also a fantastic alternative to botox and fillers as well; it is less expensive, can be done more often. Although results are immediate, your skin will gradually change up to 8 weeks after the initial procedure to see the finished results of this service. The skin heals at different rates, so the result time period can vary from client to client based on age, skin condition, and overall health and immunity.

We recommend waiting 3-4 weeks after every session to see if you would like to book another one! This gives your skin a chance to heal as well as see the results and progress of the skin’s healing process!

After Care

After Care is extremely important post procedure, especially involving skin care. Please be responsible and careful with your skin; these procedures are very beneficial but do leave your skin vulnerable for the time being. Some after care tips would be:

  • Avoid any type of sun exposure; whether it be direct sunlight or tanning beds.

  • Avoid excessive sweating, no strenuous activity such as intense work outs or workout classes. Perspiration contains salt which can get into the freshly opened pores and cause a burning sensation.

  • Avoid any type of exfoliants or active skin care products.

  • No other facial services for at least one week, including chemical and mechanical exfoliations.

  • Refrain from makeup application for at least 3 days, unless face makeup is mineral based.

What to Expect Post Procedure:

  • Skin will be red, blotchy, and tight …similar to a sunburn. Don’t worry this goes away 24 hours post procedure!

  • Skin will be sensitive to direct sunlight and temperature changes.

  • 24 Hours Post Procedure: Our skin is so sensitive and vulnerable right now! Please please please refrain from touching your face with your hands as this spreads bacteria and germs. Our skin will need extra loving, so apply hydrating serums as well as SPF! You should always wear SPF…but definitely after this procedure for protection purposes. If there are any areas of broken skin, refrain from makeup application in that area and apply antibiotic cream. When washing face, use lukewarm water only, as said the skin is sensitive to temperature change. For skin care, try to use products that are more sensitive to the skin.

  • 48 Hours Post Procedure: You can go back to your normal skin care regimen and make sure to wear SPF! As the skin starts to heal you may experience signs of dryness or flakiness. That is normal as your dead skin cells are shedding and your skin is adjusting to the change. From this time period on, your skin will gradually heal and you will see the end results!

Conclusion

If you were a little hesitant of this service before, I hope this sort of cleared up any questions or concerns you may have. This service definitely sounds more intimidating than it really is. But the main message I want to get across to my readers is YES we use numbing cream before the service! This service is so beneficial to our skin and will help any client that receives it; whether they want to just get their collagen levels up OR need to treat some problem areas that bother them. Forget botox and fillers and emptying out your wallets; instead try this amazing service out and fall in love with the results.
